Ashish Bhatt, M.D.
Chief Medical Officer
Ashish “Ash” Bhatt, a Triple Board (TB) certified physician, is recognized as one of South Florida’s leading psychiatrists and addiction medicine specialists. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both Child and Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry. He is also board certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Bhatt completed his fellowship at the University of Miami through Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida, where he also served as assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and as chief and medical director of child and adolescent inpatient and emergency crisis services.
Dr. Bhatt has extensive experience working in substance abuse, psychiatric and dual diagnosis programs for adults and adolescents. He most recently served as the chief medical officer for Elements Behavioral Health Florida Region, overseeing the medical and clinical operations for the company’s Florida facilities. With experience in both medical and administrative leadership positions in multiple inpatient, detox, residential and outpatient settings, Dr. Bhatt is highly recognized for his thorough and comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and assessment processes, using the latest in evidence-based treatment approaches to address the needs of patients.
Anthony J. Mele, Psy.D.
Chief Clinical Officer
Anthony J. Mele is the chief clinical officer with the Sovereign Health Group. He earned his doctorate of psychology at Widener University in Pennsylvania. More recently, Dr. Mele established the Catholic Clinical Consultants for Catholic Health Care Services in Pennsylvania. As the founding Executive Director, he established the clinical and operational infrastructure of the company. He also maintained several corporate and clinical responsibilities such as meeting financial goals and providing patient care. Before that, Dr. Mele was the senior vice president at A&M Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, a behavioral healthcare consulting and marketing company that provided healthcare and service industry clients with operational consultation based on the principles of organizational and clinical psychology.
Chief Financial Officer
Kevin D. Gallagher is the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Sovereign Health Group. In his role, Mr. Gallagher will oversee Sovereign Health’s cash flow while facilitating organizational growth and development; cultivate and manage Sovereign’s banking and financial relationships; and implement analytical decision-making tools and disciplines to ensure the organization is properly positioned for long-term financial growth and prosperity.
A leader in both finance and operations with the proven ability to maximize shareholder value, Mr. Gallagher holds an MBA from Farleigh Dickinson University. He has over three decades of financial and operational managerial experience, including a decade as the CFO and COO of a Los Angeles–based distributor of health and wellness products. He also held financial executive positions at Nestle USA, Inc. and Witco Chemical Corp. Mr. Gallagher lives in Anaheim Hills with his wife of 33 years. They have three grown children and one grandson.
Senior Director of Communications
Jamie Deans is the senior director of communications at the Sovereign Health Group, based at the company’s headquarters in San Clemente. Jamie brings with him an extensive background in executive leadership, corporate communications, strategic planning and program development and implementation. Jamie’s broad experience in broadcast journalism culminated in his position as an Emmy-winning editor and producer for network programs including “ABC World News Tonight,” “20/20” and “Dateline NBC.” In 1993, Jamie joined Morgan Stanley as vice president of global multimedia services, where he developed editorial and video production services for the distribution of the firm’s institutional research materials. These services allowed for real-time distribution of this content across multiple platforms including the Internet and CATV to 46 offices in 23 countries.
A graduate of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Jamie decided in 2003 to devote his expertise to the addiction treatment field. Wanting to learn the field from the ground up, his first post was as a case manager at the Hanley Center in West Palms Beach, Florida. In 2006, Jamie accepted the position of Director of Communications at Talbott Recovery in Atlanta. In 2008, he joined Elements Behavioral Health. During his tenure with Elements, he founded and served as executive director of professionals treatment at Promises, additionally taking on responsibilities in corporate communications and business development.
Michael Henry, MBA, SPHR
Director of Human Resources
Michael Henry brings to his profession years of expertise assisting organizations exceed business objectives through the alignment of people. He emphasizes strategy while maximizing employee engagement and the overall employment experience.
Henry is a senior human resources leader with a proven track record in HR transformations, assessing and building required capabilities and working with leaders to position each function to achieve business goals while increasing employee engagement. He has proven the ability to improve operations by leveraging LEAN quality initiatives. Overall, he has both strategic and operational experience in critical disciplines of human resource management: recruiting, compensation, talent management, succession planning and operations.
Audrey Smith, Esq.
Senior Legal Counsel
Audrey Smith is the senior legal counsel for the Sovereign Health Group, based out of the company’s Florida location in Pompano Beach. She previously served as managing director of the Healthcare Division at Toral Law and provided dynamic leadership in her position as CEO of Healthcare Education Resource Outreach (HERO), the only American Diabetes Association (ADA) nationally certified multi-site, multi-disciplinary diabetes education company in the country. Smith’s relentless pursuit to grow HERO nationally and internationally resulted in CDC recognition, federal and state grant awards and multi-million dollar contracts through the government, hospitals and insurance providers while servicing thousands of satisfied patients. Prior to her position with HERO, Smith maintained full legal accountability, serving as in-house counsel for 12 commonly-held entities, generating exclusive contracts with the Seminole Tribe of Florida, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Paradise Live. She is admitted to the state bar of Florida and Indiana, with a legal career that includes experience as a trial attorney and an emphasis on labor and employment matters including discrimination, ADA, workers compensation and wrongful termination.
