Operations Manager, San Clemente
Bernard Oakley is the operations manager for the company’s San Clemente facility and a positive role model that Sovereign patients can relate to. Oakley carries a message of establishing trust while also avoiding co-dependency. Both trustworthy and dependable, he stays available at any hour of the day or night, interacting with our admitted members as much as possible. Before joining the Sovereign Health Group in 2013, Oakley acted as operations manager at the Pat Moore Foundation. Overall, Oakley has been involved in the recovery field since 2005. In his experience, he has learned that tolerance and the ability to relate to an individual’s deeper issues fosters trust and produces the most positive outcome in treatment.
William (Blake) Prewett
Operations Manager, Los Angeles
William is also the notary public for the Los Angeles facility. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science from Rutgers University. Before joining the Sovereign family, William was a document control specialist at Replication Medical in Hightstown, New Jersey.
Operations Manager, Palm Springs
Leonard comes to us experienced with a multifaceted background. After studying psychology, journalism and film in college, he married and raised a family. He’s owned and operated three separate service-oriented businesses while freelancing as a journalist and writer. While developing a career in the film industry, he discovered his love for recovery and treatment and transitioned into our field.
Leonard’s skill at motivating team members as well as identifying and placing integral talent was beneficial as he helped manage his last employer’s growth from 30 to over 120 beds, all while implementing successful group activities and programs, such as action/adventure programs and experiential curriculum. Understanding that a patient’s safety, care and opportunity for successful treatment is paramount, Leonard is dedicated and committed to continuing, expanding and enhancing The Sovereign Way.
Malakiah Hammers, M.S.
Director of Education, Rancho San Diego
Malakiah started her career in the education field in 1992 as an administrative assistant at Coutin School, a private school aimed at students with special learning and emotional needs in Los Angeles. She stayed at Coutin for twelve years, during which she was in charge of each student’s individualized education program. Malakiah became the school’s assistant principal prior to her departure in 2004. After earning her bachelor’s degree in human services in 2003 and moving to San Diego in 2004, she became the school director at Fred Finch Youth Center, a dual diagnosis facility specializing in adolescent treatment. Malakiah continued her education and earned a master’s degree in special education in 2006, as well as an MFA in literary nonfiction in 2007.
Kevin Collier, MBA
Operations Manager, Pompano Beach
Kevin Collier joined the Sovereign Health Group in 2015 and currently serves as our Pompano Beach facility’s manager of operations. Collier brings over 25 years of behavioral health experience. Collier has experience working with patients of all ages in addiction services, mental health, case management, employment services, victim treatment, adjudication, residential and outpatient care. Collier earned his MBA in health administration from Eastern University and his bachelor’s degree from Clarion University. Collier has also taught behavioral health at Alvernia University.
Jerry Stefencavage, M.A.
Director of Operations, Western Region
Before joining Sovereign Health as the Director of Operations for the Western Region, Jerry Stefencavage earned his M.A. degree in management from the University of Phoenix. Mr. Stefencavage has experience serving as an Interior Communications Electrician in the U.S. Navy and was recently the Regional Operations Manager at an enterprise-wide distribution company. As the Director of Operations, Mr. Stefencavage oversees the operational performance and quality outcomes of the company, including client satisfaction. The Director of Operations will also foster compliance with regulatory standards and successful business performance within the company. Mr. Stefencavage will ensure the operations team at Sovereign Health provides the infrastructure and efficiencies necessary for the best-in-class organization in providing outstanding patient care.
Karyn Banner, Certified Paralegal
Legal Marketing and Business Developing Coordinator, Corporate
Karyn Banner is a Legal Marketing and Business Developing Coordinator for Sovereign Health, operating out of San Clemente, California. Ms. Banner obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Michigan and a Paralegal Certificate from the University of California, Irvine. Ms. Banner has over 15 years of work experience and seven years of paralegal experience in criminal, real estate, family, civil and corporate law. Ms. Banner is no stranger to dual diagnosis treatment facilities, having worked at Solid Landings Behavioral Health as a paralegal prior to joining Sovereign Health. Throughout her career, Ms. Banner has had experience overseeing and managing a court services program, client intake and analysis and acting as a liaison between clients and probation. Ms. Banner is a welcome addition to the court services team at Sovereign Health.
