Anorexia Nervosa Treatment Centers

Treating anorexia

Eating disorders are some of the deadliest mental illnesses out there, particularly anorexia. Every year, millions of adults and adolescents struggle with obsessive thoughts regarding food, weight loss and body image, often resulting in anorexia nervosa disorder. The physical and mental ramifications of this disorder can follow individuals for the rest of their lives, causing social isolation, additional mental illnesses and even heart failure. This is why getting anorexia treatment is so important.

At Sovereign Health, our Eating Disorder Program provides patients with first-class treatment of anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. We believe that by treating these illnesses as thoroughly as possible, we can increase the chance of a full recovery. For this reason, we also provide patients with an opportunity to receive treatment for substance addiction and other mental illnesses while in our care, as eating disorders are often fueled by co-occurring conditions.

What is anorexia nervosa?

Anorexia nervosa — often shortened to anorexia — is a serious, often deadly mental disorder that involves self-starvation and associated weight loss. Individuals with anorexia typically demonstrate a significantly low body weight in the context of age, sex, developmental trajectory and physical health. They may obsessively count calories, abuse laxatives, or exercise so frequently that their muscles do not have a chance to heal.

Although anorexia is a very severe disorder, it can be treated with the proper medication and behavioral therapy.

What is Addiction?

Addiction is a disease that manipulates a person’s sense of reward, motivation, memory and a number of related neurological functions.

Anorexia treatment at Sovereign Health

Sovereign Health is treating anorexia in two of our California locations: San Clemente and Rancho San Diego.

In our San Clemente location, our professionals provide treatment to adult women (aged 18 and up) for both anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.

In our Rancho San Diego facility, we offer treatment for adolescent girls (aged 12 to 17) who are struggling with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Since these disorders tend to grow worse over time, early treatment is essential.

In both treatment centers, we provide patients with cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy, two treatment methods that have been scientifically proven to help individuals recover from serious eating disorders. Our professionals also offer nutritional education, body image therapy, mindfulness and yoga classes, stress management, empowerment skills, art therapy and equine therapy. We also provide patients with a specially trained, onsite dietitian to help them plan their meals both during their stay and after returning home. All meal plans are tailored to the individual and focus specifically on their likes, dislikes and personal nutritional needs.

Both residential treatment facilities are located in beautiful, sunny California where patients can enjoy the occasional group outing.
