About Mental Health Treatment

Mental illness has only recently emerged from the dark ages, having gone largely undiagnosed in the past. These days, doctors and scientists understand the importance of recognizing – and treating – these illnesses as soon as possible. Untreated mental disorders can result in difficulties in school, work or home as well as a significantly diminished quality of life. Many people who live with untreated or improperly treated mental illnesses are also at risk of suicide.

At Sovereign Health, we recognize that each patient has his or her own unique history and that no two patients have identical needs. For this reason, our mental health treatment program is not only comprehensive, but also compassionate. We leave no stone unturned when it comes to helping our patients recover and live the best lives they can live.

Do I have a mental illness?

Mental illness doesn’t always look like it does in the movies. Oftentimes, the signs can be subtle and difficult to recognize.

Common symptoms of mental illness include:

  • Fatigue
  • Disrupted sleep patterns
  • Abnormally high or low mood
  • Loss of motivation
  • Anxiety
  • Racing thoughts
  • Social isolation

Many people have more than one mental disorder, making it difficult to determine which symptoms are caused by which disorder. Oftentimes, mental disorders go unnoticed because doctors attribute the symptoms of one disorder to another. Mental illness is also often confused with vitamin deficiency, thyroid disease or other physical conditions.

Common mental disorders include:

  • Depression
  • Generalized anxiety disorder
  • Panic disorder
  • Schizophrenia
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder

If you believe that you have a mental illness, contact your doctor immediately. Although there are no physical tests that can be used to definitively diagnose a mental disorder, doctors can use blood tests and physical examinations to rule out other disorders.

What is Addiction?

Addiction is a disease that manipulates a person’s sense of reward, motivation, memory and a number of related neurological functions.

How do I Start

All of our therapies are evidence-based, meaning that their success has been backed up by scientific research.

Our trained clinical staff understands that all of our patients are different, and that a therapeutic technique that works for one patient may not work for another. This is why we provide such a wide variety of treatment modalities, increasing the odds that our patients will find a treatment that is right for them.

What can I expect from Sovereign?

In all of our facilities, the environment is calm and comforting. Many of our facilities are located near the beach, so patients can participate in regular beach outings. Comfortable furnishings and modern televisions are the norm. Some residencies have ping-pong tables and badminton sets.

Our aim is to have Sovereign feel like a “home away from home” – only with less stress. Each patient’s primary job is to get healthy again. Nurses are available on call 24/7.

People who choose to stay at Sovereign can expect their treatment to last anywhere from 30 to 90 days.

We understand that combating mental illness can be frightening. Our trained medical staff will do whatever they can to aid patients in their recovery and stay as healthy as possible. For more information about mental health treatment at Sovereign Health, call our 24/7 helpline.
