Levels of Care

The intensity and duration of Sovereign’s chronic pain program varies according to individual needs.

In all levels of care, patients receive around-the-clock care, including assistance with daily tasks, medication and monitoring for self-harm. Treatment varies per level of care:

  • Detoxification (DTX) – Patients safely taper off any addictive substances while receiving three hours of group therapy per day and two hours per week of individual counseling.
  • Residential treatment (RTC) – Patients receive 28 hours of weekly group therapy, which includes two hours of individual therapy.
  • Partial hospitalization (PHP) – Patients receive 30 hours of weekly group therapy, which includes two hours of weekly individual therapy.
  • Intensive outpatient (IOP) – Patients receive three hours of group therapy three times a week, which includes one hour of weekly individual therapy.

Who We Treat

Patients of Sovereign’s chronic pain program must be:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Not managed on an outpatient basis
  • Voluntarily entering the program
  • Significantly impaired due to chronic pain
  • Chemical dependant, requiring Detox, RTC, PHP or IOP levels of care
  • Incapable of assuming full responsibilities for his/her life
  • Medically stable, ambulatory or use a cane, walker or wheelchair and be able to get to activities and group rooms without staff assistance.
  • Sufficiently organized in his/her thinking to participate in the structure of the program
  • Able to function without an oxygen tank
